About the course

This course aims to teach the appropriate emergency management of acute anaphylactic reactions by first medical responders and community nurses who are unlikely to have specialised knowledge.

Duration: 3 hours (1/2 day)

  • Signs and symptoms of anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions
  • Causes
  • Signs and symptoms of anaphylactic shock
Treatment, including:
- Assessment of the collapsed patient
- Recommendation for management
- First line treatment
- Considerations
- Restoration of blood pressure
- Airway management
- Oxygen administration
  • Uses and administration of adrenaline (epinephrine) and anti-histamines
  • Documentation and record keeping
